This History of Night Elfs

This History of Night Elfs

Born during the waking of the world, the kaldorei are not only reclusive, they are a mystical race. They have the most ancient heritage, making them very self sufficient and self conscious. The Well of Eternity was found located at the center of their civilization, and here is where the night elves could also be found – they were the greatest wielder of magic, putting their craft to work at a level of brilliance and inspiration not seen before.

The problem lied with the highest caste of the ancient kaldorei’s arrogance. The Highbone became increasingly reckless when using magic that the Well of Eternity granted. In the end this would be what allowed the Burning Legion to find their way into Azeroth. The Highbone fell under the Sargeras’ thrall, and apocalyptic fight was scheduled between the night elves that remained and the Legion. This becomes known as the War of the Ancients.

The kaldorei showed just who they were putting a halt to the onslaught by the Legion. Their civilization and their outside world were both shattered because of their errors. They found themselves left with nothing more than their lives, along with sorrow and grief. So the night elves headed deep into their ancestral forests of Ashenvale isolating themselves from Azeroth for almost ten millennia. They even renounced magic so much that those caught using it were actually punished with death.

Since then, the kaldorei have seen their ways revolve around an intimate connection to the natural forces that be – worshipping their mysterious moon goddess Elune, and relying on animistic powers. Now the night elves are pragmatic and highly spiritual beings a rather sophisticated paradox. They have a deep desire to find their comfort.

The remaining kaldorei believed it was their duty to keep the natural world both safe and balanced. The night elves were seen as honorable creatures, almost to a fault. But they were also seen as being compassionate at times. They tended to be distrustful of many of the younger cultures, who also saw the night elves as being dismissive. The night elves felt that these younger races were living in stubborn denial and never seemed to reach a level of responsibility and wisdom like the kaldorei had gained thanks to their past burdens. As a result many of the younger races saw the night elves as arrogant, secretive, and shadowy.

The War of the Ancients was the beginning of the corruption of the night elves. Posing as a God, Sargeras was able to contact the most powerful elf– Azshara. Sargeras then went on to convince Azshara and Lord Counselor Xavius (her most loyal assistant) to open the gateway to Azeroth, so that his God could come forth and bless the entire race. Meanwhile those races that were deemed unworthy were eradicated, which was never part of the agreement.

The portal into the mortal world began to grow larger so Sargeras sent tons more emissaries to help with the portal and bring the God’s word from beyond. These demons were all members of the Burning Legion, which is the immortal army of Sargeras.

Lor’themar Theron Story

Blizzard Entertainment is excited to present to you the latest entry in “Leaders of Azeroth,” short story series ‘In the Shadow of the Sun.’

By the time the day arrived that Aethas was scheduled to come, Lor’themar still was not sure of his thoughts. As Lor’thermar meandered his way through Sunfury Spire reaching the front hall, where the arch mage was to appear. However, Halduron stopped him, and held out a small bundle of crimson wool that was ever so soft. Lor’themar took the wool and then held it up as it began to unfold, and a regal golden phoenix was beholden upon its field. The Silvermoon City tabard.

“No,” he said curtly, shoving the garment back at his friend.

“You should wear it,” Halduron pressed.

“What does it matter?” he answered, striding forward. “Anyone in the service of Silvermoon may bear it.”

“It is the symbol of state,” Halduron called after him. “You are the head of state. You should look the part.”

“I am the regent lord,” Lor’themar said, continuing to walk away. “Not the king.”

For those of you not familiar with Lor’themar Theron, he is the Regent Lof of Quel’Thalas. He was also the leader of the blood elves found in Azeroth, while Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider was absence. After Kael’thas Sunstrider’s betrayal and then his eventual death, Lor’themar has continued to be the sole leader of his people.

At one time Lor’Themar was second in command to Ranger General Sylvanas Windrunner. After the Scourge onslaught, Lor’Thermar assumed leadership of the high elves temporarily. This occurred after the scourge onslaught, which would pave the way for Lor’Themar’s regency once the prince returned.

Lor’themar survived the Scourge’s brutal invasion of Quel’Thalas. As a former commander of the Farstriders, Lor’themar was given the job of watching over the elven kingdom while Prince Kael’thas took a journey to the Outland.

Soon after, Lor’themar found his will tested when Prince Kael’thas, who has become twisted by the demonic energies, returned back to Azeroth, and then tried to use the Sunwell for evil purposes. Later Kael’thas was killed as a result of his treachery. This left Lor’themar alone guiding the fate of the blood elves.

The Sunwell has been reborn. This means there is a bright future ahead for Quel’Thalas. Lor’themar has weathered so many of the darkest days in the kingdom. Now Lor’themar leads his people in the direction of their new destiny.

There have been a number of novels and short stories where Lor’themar has played an important role including the “Second War,” the “Third War,” “The Sunwell,” and now “In the Shadow of the Sun,”

“In the Shadow of the Sun,” is written by Sarah Pine who won the 2008 Global Creative Writing Contest. Here is a captivating story that those who have enjoyed previous WoW books are excited to see a new book. While the jury is still out most will certainly enjoy this latest addition. History of Alterac Valley

Over time there have been a major number of changes to Alterac Valley. Some of these changes seem to have been made in isolation. Sadly, these individual changes caused drastic reshaping of the battleground to the point where the battleground can hardly be recognized compared to the original version. Those isolated changes have even become catalysts for a chain reaction that has lead to the gutting of Alterac Valley and taken the fun of play completely out of it.

Part 1: Vanilla

Patch 1.5 occurred way back when there were dishonorable kills and unlinked flight paths. It brought significant change that were clearly liked.

  • After an attack sitting characters now immediately stand up.
  • Mage Armor had a new unique icon.
  • The Alterac Valley and Warsong Gulch battlegrounds became available.
  • There were PvE, PvP, and PvPvE – something fore all.

This was the start of the Classic Alterac Valley. Battles could last an hour or a day – maybe longer.

Patch 1.6 brought several balancing changes.

Patch 1.8 had changes to the victory/loss condition. Now once the completion of a battleground occurred the winning side was immediately awarded 3 Marks of Honor and the losing side was awarded 1 marks of Honor. In the early staged the Marks of Honor was harmless. These marks were traded in for honor. A number of elements were removed during this patch. The number of NPC’s were reduce and they became less of a challenge. NPCs also had their power reduced by as much as 30%.

Patch 1.10 The delicate balance of the PvP and PvE elements in Alterec Valley were in jeopardy during this patch. Bloodrager and Koorak had packed up and left Alterac Valley for better grounds.

By Patch 1.11 most of the NPC guard units were gone, and the creatures that did remain in the Alterec Valley saw a reduction in their hit points. Blizzard kept messing with the PvP and PvE balance which upset many players.

Part 2: Burning Crusade

Patch 2.0.1 saw Arenas once again added to the game. There was a fast, small PvP group in a environment that was fast and highly controlled. The Dark Portal was als open again. Arenas were added to the game. The Marks of Honor that were earned from battlegrounds were no longer turned in for honor or reputation. With the Mark system it was necessary for players to participate in all battlegrounds, because PvP gear required Marks from each of Arathi Basin, Warsong Gulch, Alterac Valley, and Eye of the Storm.

In  Patch 2.4 players were so busy zerging that the bunkers and towers were ignored. They would rush to the end, and slaughter the enemy without thinking of anyone else. Major buffs have been applied to Marshalls and Warmasters, which now increase each other’s maximum damage and maximum health. By 25%.

Major buffs have been applied to Warmasters and Marshalls; Warmasters and Marshalls now increase each other’s maximum health and maximum damage by 25%. This is a stacking buff.

Now, rather than wanting to take the towers as part of a natural progression to the enemy General, players were required to stop and burn a few bunkers along the way, or risk a wipe, or a turtle, or – Light forbid – actual PvP combat! The horror!

The legendary warzone was no more. Glorious battle went unmet, honorable victories were left un-won, and a good time was had by very few.

Part 3: Wrath of the Lich King

Patch 3.2 saw the Isle of Conquest added. Blizzard thought the 40vs40 battleground was what the players were after because for so long they had sought to have their Classic Alterec Valley but Blizzard was wrong Isle of Conquest was not based, on Alterec Valley, but rather off of the stripped-down, Alterec Valley Lite version.

Patch 3.3.3 was a terrific patch with the return of the legendary Alterac Valley. Battlegrounds weren’t awarding Marks of Honor any longer. With so many battlegrounds available to choose from Alterac Valley could disappear back into legend without being missed, or so they thought.

Part 4: Cataclysm

Patch 4.X is where we see Cataclysm arrive at Azeroth. Blizzard has recently stated  they would like to add PvP content, they feel that new battlegrounds are extremely time-consuming. Why not just revamp Alterec Valley? After all that’s what everyone wants. If you want to see Classic Alterac Valley voice your opinion! New World

New World Another WoW Short Story

6,800 years before Warcraft…… Dath’Remar led the high elves left Kalimdor challenging the Maelstrom storms. The found themselves wandering the wreckage of the world for year after year, discovering mysteries along the way as well as lost kingdoms.

Dath’Remar took the name Sunstrider, which means “he who walks the day.” He looked for places of power where he could build a new home for his people. Finally, his fleet landed on the beaches that would later become known as Lordareon.

They would forge inland, and the high elves eventually founded a settlement within the Tirisfal Glades tranquil. But over the years many of them went mad. There was a theory that something evil sleeping below them in this part of the world was responsible for driving them mad. So the high elves packed up and moved north.

As the high elves crossed the rugged terrain of the Lordaeron, it becomes quite a perilous journey. They were cut off from the life giving energies of the Well of Eternity, and that led to many of them falling ill from the cold climate. Still more starved to death. But the most troubling change was the fact that they were no longer immune to all the elements because they weren’t immortal any longer. Their violet skin disappeared and they shrunk in height. But despite all of this they ran into many astounding creatures they had not seen in Kalimdor. Read more in the well of eternity trilogy.

After many years the high elves were relieved to find a land that reminded them of Kalimdor. They founded the Kingdom of Quel’Thalas, which was deep in the northern forests. They vowed to create an vast empire mightier than their Kaldorei cousins. Sadly, they discovered that Quel’Thalas was actually built on an ancient sacred troll city.

However, elves are stubborn and so they weren’t willing to give up their newly discovered land, so they used magic to keep the savage trolls away. Under Dath’Remar’s leadership they defeated the Amani war bands, which actually outnumbered them 10 to 1. Some elves were concerned that Kaldorei’s ancient warnings might catch the attention of the Burning Legion, which had been banished.

So they decided it would be wise to hide their lands within a protective barrier that would allow them to work on their enchantments, improving upon them. They did this by constructing monolithic Runestones at a number of different points throughout Quel’Thalas, marking the magic barrier boundaries. The Runestones also masked the magic of the elves frightening away the superstitious troll war bands.

Time ticked away. Quel’Thalas became a testimonial to the efforts of the high elves magical prowess. The palaces were certainly architecturally appealing interwoven among the lands topography. Quel’Thalas had become the sparkling gem that the elves had desired to create over time. Sunstrider Dynasty was able to maintain a strong political power that was made up of seven great high elf lord, surrounded by protective barrier they were unmoved by the Kaldorei’s warning continuing to use magic in all areas of their lives….time would tell where things might go from here.

The Story of Mythos

Mythos

No one is sure when the universe began. There are plenty of theories. Some believe it was the result of a catastrophic cosmic explosion that sent infinite worlds spinning into the immensity of the dark worlds that perhaps one day might bear life forms. Others believe the universe was created by a single powerful entity as a whole. While the exact origins are uncertain, what’s known is that the chaotic universe is home to a powerful beings that were suppose to bring stability to different worlds so that there was safety in the future.

From the cosmos far reaches the Titans metallic skinned Gods explored what the new universe had to offer, exploring the world they encountered and shaping them by creating mighty mountains and vast seas, then breathing skies into the atmosphere. It was all part of a plan to create chaos. They were even able to give primitive races power and maintain their integrity of their worlds.

The Titan’s were able to bring order to millions of worlds that were scattered through the Great Dark. The Pantheon tried to safeguard the structured worlds and was constantly vigilant against the threat of any attack from the Twisting Nether dimensional entities. The Titans struggled to come up with a way to end the constant threat from the demons’.

Sargeras, a molten bronze noble giant, was the first line of defense carrying out the endless duties, while seeking and destroying the demons whenever he found them. Over time, Sargeras came across two very powerful demonic races, both trying to get dominance and power over the physical universe.

The devilish sorcerer’s insidious race depended on their warlock magic to invade many worlds, and then enslave them. The native races of the worlds were mutated by the malevolent powers of the eredars turning the demons onto themselves. While Sargeras had almost unlimited powers quite capable of defeating the eredars that didn’t mean he wasn’t bothered by the corruption of the creatures and the consuming evil associated with them. The Titan began to slip into a deep depression, and his unease continued to grow. Sargeras was able to get rid of the warlocks in the universe by trapping them within the Twisting Nether corner.

After breaking from the ranks Sargeras set about finding his own place within the universe. While Pantheon was sad that Sargeras was leaving, the Titans had underestimated how far Sargeras would go for he was consumed with madness believing the Titans were actually responsible for the failure of creation, deciding to undo all their hard work throughout the universe. …

Jump ahead in time. Tyrande was left to protect Kalimdor, so she brought together a powerful fighting force from among her night elf sisters. The highly trained warrior woman was fearless, and who pledged themselves to the defense of Kalimodor became Sentinels. While they preferred to patrol the forest of Ashenvale they had plenty of allies which they could rely on during urgent times.

Unable to shake the unnerving feeling that the Burning Legion might still be there beyond the Great Dark plotting revenge upon the world of Azeroth, and the night elves…. Learn more about WoW Books & Lore Here.

Saurfang has Been Forgotten

Saurfang

Almost everyone would agree that Saurfang was possibly the most badass orc ever. While Thrall can really lay a lickin and do some serious hurt, when it comes to bustin heads using an axe in the manner any orc would or should, it’s going to be difficult to beat Varok Saurfang. And that’s earned Saurfang a reputation as one serious badass. And that’s what’s so puzzling. Why was Saurfang just left to be forgotten?

”"

When Cataclysm arrived on the scenes Blizzard decided it was time to put Saurfang away for safe keeping. Forgotten, tucked away – would he ever appear again? And why would Blizzard do such a thing?

Well, the belief is that they though Varok Saurfang just stole too much of the limelight from Garrosh. Current lore has Saurfang in charge of the Horde’s forces remaining in Northend. To an orc like Saurfang this would be the equivalent of being semi-retired.

”"

Is that really it? Is Blizzard really done with Saurfang for good? Not likely! For now he may be forgotten, sitting on the backburner, but it’s more than likely that he will definitely show back up again, and some even have their own ideas of how Saurfang will die in the end. Are we finished with Saurfang? Hardly – it really comes down to a single word “Sargeras.”

For those of you not familiar with Sargeras, he has a reputation for being the biggest badest bad guy throughout the entire WoW pantheon of villains. That said, even being the bad guy he is, and even for having been responsible for bringing sheer evil upon the universe, there really is only one hero from Azerroth or Draenor that Sargeras has personally killed. Sargeras is responsible for directly killing Broxigar.

There is not been any other WoW character with a direct path of vengeance to Sargeras as Saurfang has. There have been many heroes in Azerroth but every single one of those heroes has had some level of separation or a case that’s more round about. Saurfang is really the only one who would be able to show up at the final battel and say, “Hello, my name is Varok Saurfang.  You killed my brother.  Prepare to die.”

It’s for that reason alone that many believe we have not yet seen the last of Saurfang. So while he may be forgotten right now don’t expect it to stay that way. It’s almost a winning bet that he will be present at the last battle with Sargeras.

Yes, it’s likely that there will be a full smorgasbord of NPC heroes present at that battle, but Saurfang will most definitely be among them. If you’re of a different opinion than nows a good time to lay a few dollars down and see what the future holds. Many believe that it will be during this battle that Saurfang will actually lose his life.

”"

Now don’t jump to any conclusions. We are doubtful that Saurfang will go down in any sissy manner. It is likely he will be sacrificed at some point during to the battle to ensure the victory. Why are we so sure this is going to be how it goes down? One word – Beowulf. You see when it comes to the different types of heroes Saurfang has been slowly moving into that role. For Saurfang to actually fulfill his hero type he must die in a very glorious manner. What could be a more glorious death than Saurfang dying to make sure the Sargeras is destroyed. So while Saurfang may be forgotten currently make no mistake he is not gone. You can count on it!

This forced Tirion Fordring to have to finally make the decision about who actually were the monsters and who were the men.

Charge of the Aspects

The instant Nozdormu, the Timeless One, saw the desiccated bronze dragon; the thought occurred that he had murdered one of his own. Zirion’s body was covered in lesions from head to tail, and he had shriveled to half his size. Golden sand rather than blood cascaded out of his wounds, shimmering ghostly images of his life that had not yet come to be. His future was bleeding out before him.

Nozdormu crossed the Mount Hyjal isolated peak to stand by Zirion’s side. As Nozdormu loomed over the Zirion’s dying body, he felt helpless. An unfathomable veil descended. It was so thick, that not even the Guardian of Time or the Aspect of the bronze dragon flight could penetrate it. Not so long ago the past and the future seemed so clear, but they had become completely muddled.

Nozdormu stretched his neck toward Tick, who was standing close by. “Where are the others?” asked Nozdormu. The loyal dragon carried Zirion on her back from the lair in the Caverns of Time. Through Tick’s labored breathing, one hear “He returned alone.” In frustration Nozdormu grunted, “How can that be?”

He had given his agents the task of investigating the timeways and the unsettling conditions surrounding them. Why couldn’t he shake the feeling of doom that he had consigned them to their death? When the dragon returned to the present he was supposed to have met the Timeless One atop Hyjal at midday. Yet midday had come and gone when Tick arrived bearing Zirion. Tick hadn’t been sent into the timeways.

As Nozdormu began to weave spells that would reverse the sands of time escaping from the dragon, Nozdormu asked, “Zirion, what did you see?” Tick replied, “I fear he has lost the ability to speak.” It was hardly audible to the Timeless One. It was impassible – his magic was having absolutely no effect, because his actions had become predictable and were therefore countered with powerful spell work.

After returning from the timeways Tick continued hesitantly, “he recounted what he saw. No matter where he and the others attempted to journey in history, they always emerged at the same point in the future… the Hour of Twilight.”

With his head lowered and his eyes clenched shut Nozdormu felt the strands of time gathering and pulling towards the apocalypse. Even the Timeless One would meet his death in gloomy lifeless future, or so he believed. Nozdormu has gained invaluable knowledge of his own finish.

Fast forward…..

Thrall, had tapped into the earth’s essence, pondering the blue Aspect. It was only a short while ago that the orc helped bind Earth to Ysera, Kalec, Alexstrasza, and Nozdormu letting them combine their powers so they were able to keep the Deathwing’s servants at bay. The shaman was a conduit to Azeroth but he had become far more than that, becoming the answer to the pivotal point for the Dragon Soul to be turned against its maker. Trapped in the cavern Thrall’s spirit was now numb to Azeroth except for the pain. Three weeks earlier, his anger, fear, and doubt had caused doubts and ruled his heart. This prison of isolation was enough for one to lose themselves, and never before had he been so sure of his role as a shaman.

Road to Damnation

A fuming Kel’Thuzad is forced to wait for hours. Angry at the insult, he waits forever, before finally being allowed to confront his accuser. It’s no secret that Drenden and Modera, the groups’ spokespersons, are his vocal critics. However, he Kel’Thuzad knew they would not launch such an inquisition without Antonidas support. Yet the old man still had not shown himself and Kel’Thuzard wondered what he was up to.

Kel’Thuzad grew weary of the conversation with Drenden. A far away voice was speaking to him. It was most defiantly the voice of a friend. His remarks were comforting and felt like they were Kel’Thuzad’s own thoughts. “They fear you and envy you. Thanks to your new course of study they know you are gaining knowledge and power.”

Suddenly there was a flash of light, and a gray haired arch mage appeared. With a scowl he said, “I would not have believed it if I had not seen it myself. You have abused our patience for the last time, Kel’Thuzad.” Kel’Thuzard was not worried instead snidely commenting that he thought perhaps Antonidas had become ill since his presence had become so rare. A heated discussion ensued.

Another flash of light and a young woman appears. As she stands by Antonidas, the gaze of the high elf follows her, but Jaina Proudmoore is so focused on her duties she does not even notice. It was clear the handsome man had no chance……

Fast forward…. The wolf pack stalks Kel’Thuzad for miles, finally falling behind. As Kel’Thuzad glances over his shoulder he catches them snarling before they dart off.  In the distance Kel’Thuzad could just make out the unwelcoming summit mountaintop, but while the feelings of foreboding were present so was a sense of triumph. Only a few explorers had ever ventured onto the glacier at the peak of Icecrown, and still fewer had survived. Kel’Thuzad would scale it on his own to look down upon the world below him.

There were few maps and those that did exist were inadequate. He was unsure of the path ahead or what his ultimate destination might be. He staggered onward, not able to teleport. He had completely lost time and had no idea how long he had been walking. Even with his fur lined cloak Kel’Thuzad shivered uncontrollably. His legs felt like blocks of stone, and his body was shutting down. He needed to find shelter fast or he would die.

In time a glint of light caught his eye. The stone obelisk was carved with all kinds of magical symbols and far past that stood the citadel. Finally! He scurried past the obelisk, crossed the pure energy bridge, and was greeted with the citadel doors opening as he neared.

He quickly came to a stop as he became aware of the two gross creatures that looked like gian spiders from the waist down attached to a torso that only mildly resembled a human. These creatures stood guard over the citadel. Kel’Thuzad realized these creatures were in terrible shape with open wounds and limbs that were bent in unimaginable angles. Yet the guards did not appear confused, and the appeared to have the original strength. Kel’Thuzad was surprised when they moved aside so he could enter.

But that would be the smallest of his surprises. It’s time to get your own copy of Road to Damnation so you can get the whole story. Be warned you may not be able to put it down.
