Of Blood and Honor - What Happens
Of Blood and Honor
“Warcraft - Of Blood and Honor”, by author Chris Metzen, is the fourth novel in the Blizzard Entertainment Warcraft Universe. “Of Blood and Honor” was first released as an e-book and then later as a trade paperback compilation The Warcraft Archive. Even as a short story it is entertaining, and full of surprises that one would not expect.
This is the story of Tirion Fordring, a Paladin in the Warcraft universe. He is a human paladin struggling with his personal beliefs. After being crushed under a collapsed tower, Tirion makes a pact with Eitrigg, the orc who saved him. Tirion finds himself struggling with his own beliefs after realizing that he is biased and prejudiced. Tirion Fordring gives it all up for his honor and as a result, he finds himself exiled while Eitrigg is taken back by the orcs.
Azeroth is a world where dwarves and elves walk in harmony among the tribes of men. Then along comes the demonic army, known as the Burning Legion. It is here where the dragons, orcs, trolls, and goblins all vie to rule over the warring kingdoms. This is all part of a plan that will decide the fate of Warcraft. Tirion is left to try to determine who the monsters are and who the men are.
Blood and Honor is comparable to “Warcraft - Day of the Dragon.” The character of Tirion Fordring and the inner turmoil he finds himself facing are well developed, and there are some excellent plot twists as a result of the impact of his decisions. The book does an excellent job at foreshadowing that there is so much more to come. There are even some unexpected visitors in the book that will take you by surprise.
“Warcraft - Of Blood and Honor”, is a tale of warfare, heroism, and magic based Blizzard Entertainment’s best selling, and award winning electronic game. If you have enjoyed the other Warcraft books, you are bound to also enjoy this one.
While the author Chris Metzen is not a published author and in parts of this novel his inexperience shows through, and while the fast pace of the previous novels is not kept up with, overall it is still a well-written novel. There is no question that the story is fascinating, and while the writing itself does not always keep up with it, we should cut the author some slack, since this is his first novel and all things considered he’s done a good job of drawing the reader in and keeping them focused.
After all, the story line is solid and it allows the reader to encounter part of the Warcraft universe that may have otherwise been left untouched. We get to see and understand what is required for a Paladin to stick to his word in the Warcraft universe, and for those of you who have enjoyed the previous books, you are going to want to get your hands on “Of Blood and Honor” too. It is definitely a read you will not want to miss.
